Art Description

This art work is inspired by the dramatic and beautiful Beachy Head - a chalk headland in East Sussex formed c.66 – 100 million years ago. The cliff is the highest chalk sea in Britain which continues to be eroded by the sea today.

Its name, Beachy Head has nothing to do with the word beach, but is a corruption of the original French name(s) Beauchef (1274) and Beaucheif (1317) meaning beautiful headland or beau chef.

I wanted to highlight the whiteness of the cliff against the intensely blue sea and sky. As with almost all of my work, it is an interpretation of nature through my visualisation of it.
